Whole Wheat Brown Bread Recipe

This recipe is a great healthy snack bread and a simple quick bread to make. It has a sweet taste without the grainy or earthy taste you might expect. Recipe makes 2 large loaves of bread. You can mix the dough in a bowl if you want but I use a Bosch Universal Mixer to get the job done. You may use store bought whole wheat flour but it may not turn out as well, home milled whole wheat flour is always superior in taste and quality.


 Whole Wheat Brown Bread Recipe


  • 4 cups Fresh Whole Wheat Flour 
    1 All Purpose White Flour
    2 teaspoon baking powder
    2 teaspoon baking soda
    2 teaspoon salt
    3 cups buttermilk
    1/2 cup canola oil or vegetable oil
    1/2 cup honey
    1/2 cup molasses


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Lightly grease 9×5 inch bread pan.
  3. In a mixer or large bowl, mix all the ingredients until well mixed.
  4. Pour batter into pan.
  5. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until it passes the toothpick test.
    (poke it with a toothpick, if it comes out clean then its probably done) 


This recipe came from a very old Workbasket Crochet Magazine, no I don't crocket but the recipe was past to an acquaintance of mine by someone who does.


Just like any kind of brown bread because of its health benefits.
